Treating Stress by Dave McCann, D.C.
I have long considered, and said many times to patients, that a major part of what I do is stress management. Here are just a few of the ways that stress has a devastating impact our health:
STRESS…whether it’s physical, mental or emotional, or chemical stress from our toxic environment, creates imbalance. Often times, patients don’t fully grasp that mental and emotional stressors contribute to physical or structural imbalance and aggravate those conditions. Similarly, chemical stressors adversely affect mental and emotional processes and structural integrity. Over time stress takes its toll on the body. Life is a cumulative process. Chronic stress leads to chronic inflammation and a host of associated disease processes.
It doesn’t do anyone any good for me to say, “You need less stress.” Who doesn’t? I know I do. But if I can help your body to function better under your current stress load, then essentially, you have less stress, simply because you’re managing it better.
As a Doctor of Chiropractic for 16 years, I talk frequently with patients about different methods of stress management. I’ve found that Applied Kinesiology (AK), or manual muscle testing, used to evaluate nervous system function, is simultaneously, the most effective method of determining where in the body things are out of balance, and how best to eliminate that imbalance and restore peace and ease to the body.
